About

This blog is about home automation in the UK, from a ‘normal person’ perspective.  I’m not employed by any home automation company, nor do I have any ties with any.

Hopefully this site may be of use to anyone considering how to integrate different systems together to get what they want out of a home control system.

  1. Much enjoying your posts. Just wondering if you might think about detailing your use of Sonos within Domoticz / LightWaveRF switches. Am pretty tech savvy, but parts of it slightly make my brain hurt. Are you using the now-seemingly discontinued plug-in, or some other HTTP implementation? Being able to set Sonos scenes from, say, a mood switch would be just splendid, and it’s a bit disappointing Domoticz doesn’t do it natively…

  2. Love your blog. I know you mentioned about your own web interface. From the pictures in the blog it looks great, do you have it on git hub or similar?

    1. Thanks for the comment. The front end is a custom made one using plain old html and some javascript. I am writing an article about it now and will publish soon.

      1. Very nice article about the front-end and he is perfect, exactly what I search. I understand that you don’t want to publish your code. But, maybe, can you send to me a archive of your code ???:):):):)
Thx for all and best regards.

  3. Mixed feelings on this one. I loved the ideal of your interface and managed to reverse engineer most of it using frames and php.

Half the experience in home automation is finding your own way and doing your own thing based on previous ideas but can also see that some people like copy and paste, I’m one of them at times…

Whichever way you go this is an excellent place for ideas 🙂 many thanks

    1. Hi Aaron, no there aren’t too many pictures, mainly because the new series I am doing will have a completely new look. Have a go with the zip I have forwarded and let me know what you think – but there’ll be an option to use the new look version as I will be adding that to download very soon. Thanks for your comments.

  10. Hi mate your a total legend, this is by far the best custom front end that i have come across. I was going to go over to openHAB for it’s ease of front end design until i came across this blog. Shame you don’t have a donation link because i’d genuinely like to send you a few quid. I am totally not up with any sort of coding, your hard work is going save me hours and hours of torture, any chance of getting a copy? Keep up the good work mate, Kirk.

  12. WoW! I’m using Domoticz for some time now for integrate several different systems into one GUI (Hue/Nefit/ST/SqueezB/etc), but this is by far the best looking dash I encountered. Would you be willing to share your code?

    1. Hi – thanks very much for the comments. If you’ve not had the zip file by now in your inbox it is because the file is too large for non-Gmail accounts. If so please contact me with a Gmail address. Thanks again!
